Importance of the City and the Building

The building in Cologne is important for many of the same reason that other cathedrals are. It is a buidling that was important for a percentage of the population and for generations of people and families. It also became a symbol of unity for the German people and as a way for them to feel closer to God, especially times when they needed it most. Cologne was an economically important city situated on the River Rhine and therefore attracted people from all around Europe as well as various sorts. The cathedral was a representation of the peoples attitude towards the world they lived in: they wanted the buidling to be perfect and grand, exactly how they viewed the building's purpose and their city.
