The Choir Rebuilt
The rebuilding of the Choir was begun by William of Sens. Unfortunatel, five years into his work, William of Sens fell from a high location off of a scaffolding and was injured to the point of having to stop his work. His successor was William the Englishman. The rebuilding of the Choir was completed in 1980. The style of William of Sens was an early gothic style, and it was one of, if not the earliest implementations of Gothic architecture in England. This Gothic reconstruction replaced the Romanesque architecture of the previous Choir. This Gothic style went on to be emulated by many English Churches. The rebuilt Choir also became the longest Choir in England, stretching 180 feet. The reconstruction did not stop here, however.
