Mass of St. Giles
The Mass of St Giles depicts the High Altar of St Denis, which used to stand near Dagoberts monument but has since been moved. The painting also depicts Eloy's Cross, which was maintained and improved by Abbot Suger, who had many gems placed into the Cross. Artifacts such as Eloy’s Cross and the Dagoberts Throne add to the authority of the Church. The presence and possession of these artifacts shows the power and influence of the church throughout history, as well as adding to its ability to influence others. These treasures show the values of the church over history as well as what society valued when the object was obtained. The objects that are preserved are the objects that are obviously valued by the church and by society, likely due to the symbolism behind them, such as the grace of God and his Divinity, as well as the throne being a relic from a former monarch.
